No victories for first week of GMLOK softball

The GMLOK softball team began its season last week with a pair of doubleheaders, one on Tuesday and another on Thursday, against two conference foes. The Bulldogs traveled to Chatfield for their first two games and ended the week with two games in Preston against the Fillmore Central Falcons. The Knights were unable to come away with any victories in their first week of action, but did have some competitive games.

Kingsland track has impressive performances
The Kingsland High School track and field teams had their first outdoor meet of the year last Tuesday as they traveled to Chatfield for the Chatfield Invitational. The Knights were without a number of athletes due to injury or illness, limiting an already small team. Both the boys' and girls' teams finished in last place out of seven teams at the meet. Despite that, Kingsland had some impressive performances with several athletes setting new personal bests in events.

GMLOK baseball starts season with a flurry
The GMLOK baseball team started its season with a flurry last week, playing three games in four days. The Bulldogs rebounded nicely after losing their first two games to Chatfield and St. Charles by winning impressively against the Rushford-Peterson Trojans on Thursday.

Kingsland grad takes unusual journey to starting lineup at Division II college
When Jacob Harder was a junior at Kingsland High School during the 2009-10 season, his playing time during basketball games came mostly when the score was lopsided and the clock was ticking down to the final buzzer. Four years later, he cracked the starting lineup of a Division II college this season.

Kingsland girls win final regular season game, exit section playoffs in first round
The Kingsland girls basketball team concluded the regular season with a 61-48 victory over Lewiston-Altura last Monday in a game that was rescheduled twice due to school cancellations. This contest proved to be worth the wait for the Knights (4-22, 3-17), as they snapped a 13-game losing streak with the win.

Lady Knights lose four games in busy week
The Kingsland girls basketball team had a busy week, playing four games in six days. The week included two contests against a talented Plainview-Elgin-Millville team as well as one each against St. Charles and Spring Grove. The Knights were handled easily by PEM in both games and lost close calls to Saints and Lions.

Kingsland girls drop three against tough opponents
The Kingsland girls basketball team faced three conference opponents last week and were defeated in all three games. Dover-Eyota, Caledonia and Winona Cotter each used pressing, pressure defenses in their respective contests with the Lady Knights to create turnovers that ultimately led to easy baskets.

Kingsland boys win at buzzer, lose next two
The Kingsland boys played a trio of tightly-contested conference games the past week. The week began in dramatic fashion at home with a half-court, buzzer-beating shot to give the Knights a narrow victory over Dover-Eyota. The Knights weren't able to build on their late-game heroics though, dropping the next two games of the week to Lewiston-Altura and Winona Cotter.
