Booster club seeks nominations for Hall of Fame
By Sonya Meyerhofer

Members of the Kingsland Athletic Booster Club are currently seeking nominations for the Kingsland Athletic Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony, first created by the Booster Club in 2003, takes place every two years with the spring fundraiser. This year the fundraiser, with the purpose of financially helping support Kingsland athletic programs, will take place Saturday, April 6, at the Spring Valley Community Center beginning at 5 p.m.

The banquet fundraiser includes a social time at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The induction ceremony will start at 6:45 p.m. The live auction will begin after the induction ceremony concludes.

In 2003, former Spring Valley athletic director Charlie Reps and former Wykoff athletic director, the late Lowell "Pete" Boelter, were the first inductees into the Kingsland Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2005, Lew Flattum and Laverne "Web" Webster became members, and in 2007, Rhonda (House) Loeffelholz and Wayne Hebrink were inducted. In 2009, John Fenske and Steve Navara were named to the Hall of Fame. Two years ago, in 2011, William "Bill" Winters and Mitch Lentz were inducted.

Nominees selected to be inducted for 2013 will have their names added to the plaque on display in the high school, and receive their own recognition plaques.

Criteria for nominations:

• Nominees must presently be involved in some way with athletics at Kingsland, Spring Valley or Wykoff high schools, or must have been a supporter of athletics in some manner as a fan, administrator, coach or athlete.

• Any former athlete nominated must have graduated from one of the three schools (Kingsland, Spring Valley, or Wykoff) at least 10 years prior to nomination and have gone on to make a significant contribution to high school athletics, either locally or at another high school.

• Two individuals will be selected for induction into the Kingsland Athletic Hall of Fame every two years.

Nominations won't be carried over from one year to the next and nominees who are not selected can be re-nominated. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, March 1.

Anyone interested in nominating individuals can download an application form at Applications can be returned by mail to Mitch Lentz at 24364 151st Ave., Spring Valley, MN 55975, or they can get forms from Mitch Lentz by calling him at 507-346-7127.
