Shane Austin is all-conference for the second straight season and is joined by Lanesboro teammate Tony Knutson on the 2009 All-SEC Football Team. Receiving Honorable Mention from the Southeast Conference coaches were Luke Johnson and Jerimia Brown.
Co-Champions Grand Meadow and Houston each had four players named including the three top award winners - Lineman of the Year Nick Henderson of Houston, Back of the Year Caleb Leichtnam and Super Lark teammate Michael Gehling the Defensive Player of the Year.
Gehling is the only gridder to make First Team All-SEC for three years, but Mabel-Canton lineman Joe Smith received Honorable Mention, making his third season on the honor list.
Joining Austin as a two-year member is junior Dalton Stoen of Mabel-Canton.
Moving up from last year's honorable mention list to First Team in 2009 are Brady Stier of Lyle/Pacelli and Michael Thofson of Glenville-Emmons.
Among the 20 First Team selections there are 15 seniors, four juniors and one sophomore. All play on both offense and defense with five also being punters. On offense, there are 10 running backs, three quarterbacks and seven linemen. On defense, there are 12 linebackers (from eight teams), three defensive backs and five linemen.
AUSTIN, a 6-1, 270-pound junior tight end/defensive tackle/punter, led the conference in punting with a 35.0 average. He has been a two-year starter on both the offensive and defensive lines.
KNUTSON, a 210-pound senior tight end/defensive end, also played linebacker when injury depleted that corps. He was Lanesboro's leading tackler with 72 stops.
BROWN, a 6-4, 222-pound junior, was an interior lineman on both offense and defense. He was the Burros' fourth leading tackler with 67.
JOHNSON, a 6-1, 155-pound junior was a mainstay at cornerback. During the regular season, his four interceptions was one back of the conference leader. He added another pick in the playoff game. He tied for second on the team with 69 tackles.
On offense at wingback, Johnson was primarily a blocker but did catch seven passes including one touchdown reception.
