It can be dizzying keeping up with the upcoming changes for Lanesboro and Southeast Conference football. The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) doing away with traditional high school football conferences in 2015, 2016 and presumably beyond is certainly a major alteration; the final SEC grid season of 2014 will be different as well.

For the fifth time in 12 years, Lanesboro has finished the 2013-2014 school year with the most Southeast Conference sports championships. No other league team has earned that distinction more than three times.

Legion team gets win in tourney, another over St. Charles
It has been a busy last few days for the Central Legion baseball team, with trips to Montevideo and St. Charles. This past weekend the team won one and lost two in the Montevideo Tournament, and last Wednesday picked up a win over St. Charles.

Legion team takes season opener for first win in 30+ years
The Central Falcons, an American Legion baseball team, this past weekend won their first game of the season over Lewiston (17-4) and, as many local historians have noted, this was the first Legion win for a local team in more than 30 years.

The two-day Section 1A Track& Field Championships took place last week at Paul Giel Field in Winona. Competitors who placed first or second in individual events, relays, and those who achieved a standard time, distance, or height advanced to the state tournament in St. Paul.

Jordan Miller, Fillmore Central junior, continued his championship play going with a first place finish at the Section 1A golf tournament held last week at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester. Miller shot a 75, five strokes better than second place B. Borkowski of Lewiston-Altura.

Fillmore Central acquires Minnesota Twins grant
The Fillmore Central School District announced that it has been chosen as the recipient of a $5,000 Minnesota Twins Fields for Kids Grant that will help complete the fencing project at the Fillmore Central baseball field in Preston and add a windscreen to the outfield fence.

The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team beat Wabasha-Kellogg, 2-1, in the 1A East Sub-section championship game last week and was scheduled to play Kenyon-Wanamingo (west winner) in the first round of the Section 1A tournament Tuesday.

Falcons go 1-2 in baseball tournament
The fifth seeded Fillmore Central/Lanesboro baseball team started the post-season with a 12-6 win over Mabel-Canton and finished the 1A East Sub-section tournament, and their 2014 season, with a 12-2 (five inning) loss to Chatfield.
