Lanesboro Board accepts Sifford's board resignation; hires new positions
By Nate Hanson

The Lanesboro School Board, meeting July 15, hired two people and also learned one board member will be leaving.

A full-time social studies contract was accepted by Ethan Simonson. He taught in the St. Cloud area and is originally from Austin. He will be taking over for Tom Hatleli. Another new face will be Torey Johnson. She has accepted a daycare teaching contract. Principals and the dean of students remain the same.

The resignation of school board member Linda Sifford was accepted with appreciation for her many years of service. The board may appoint somebody to fill this vacancy to serve out the remaining six months of her term. A clerk also needed to be appointed. The board moved and carried to appoint Steve Snyder as clerk.

At the start of the meeting, the board jumped into the school's revenue. The balance at the beginning of the month of June was $399,220 and the end of the month's balance is $245,811. The board accepted all of the bills, payroll, financial statements and treasurer's report.

Next on the agenda was a motion to create a family season pass for extra curricular activities in the upcoming school year. This would be for the benefit of larger families and those who frequently attend games and events. The motion for the family pass carried, and the price guidelines will be set at a later date.

Bread and milk bids for next school year came in. Kemps did not offer a bid for milk for the 2010-2011 school year. However, Ziebells Hiawatha Foods, Inc., out of Winona made a bid and that was accepted by the board. A bid for the bread was made by Sara Lee Baking from Eagan. That bid was also accepted by the board.

Along with the bread and milk bids were the school lunch prices. The motion to keep the current lunch rates carried.

The substitute teacher's pay will increase from its current rate. It has been $100 per day. The motion to make it $105 per day plus mileage carried.

Anyone planning to run for school board must pay $2 by 5 p.m. Aug. 17. Also, it was noted there's a call for nominations for Minnesota School Board Association. The school office would be the first contact.
