Family Dollar opens in Preston

Over the past few months, travelers coming through town on Highway 52 have witnessed the construction of a new Family Dollar store in Preston. As the time drew near for the opening, people could see electricians working in the building, shelves being installed and merchandise being laid out. Citizens anticipated the new store to be a tremendous asset to the community.

Minnesota's Stream Trout Fishing season opener dawned Saturday with one of the first thunderstorms of the year. Many anglers from all over the area descended on the streams only to be driven away by darkness and downpour. Several even braved harsh rain and difficult driving conditions to partake in the trout season opening.

Lanesboro council discusses placing historic decals in vacant building windows
In order to disguise the fact that several buildings in Lanesboro are vacant, the city's Economic Development Authority (EDA) has suggested placing historic decals into the windows of each of these buildings. The idea behind this is to make the buildings appear as though they are not vacant. The hope is that showing some attention to the building would attract people to possibly buy it for a specific purpose rather than leaving them vacant.

In order to curb confusion as clubs go from business to business for fundraisers, the Fillmore Central Booster Club and Birds of Prey Booster Club have joined forces. Under the Booster Club umbrella, every other club will receive their shares of fundraisers to which businesses donate money.

In its most recent issue for the month of April, the Smithsonian Magazine released a publication of the top 20 small towns to visit in the United States. Many of these towns belong to the east coast and states such as Florida, Virginia and Vermont. Others were from Arizona and Idaho.
