Root River Valley Earth Day April 28 will make learning all about family fun

You won't want to miss the day of fun Saturday, April 28, at the Root River Valley Earth Day Celebration put on by the Lanesboro community and Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. There will be something for everyone.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Sylvan Park, Lanesboro and is free. Activity Fair and Kids Crafts include stenciling organic cotton napkins to use at home, making a paper bead and hemp bracelet, making an Earth Day beaded bookmark, contributing to a mural made with plastic bottle caps with Lanesboro Arts Center, whittling a walking stick with Project GO, making fish prints with Minnesota State Parks, playing carnival games made from recycled materials, and seeing a Black King Snake presentation.

Demonstrations include learning how to make tote bags from plastic pet food bags with Lanesboro Local, and seeing how to turn kitchen scraps into rich soil with Gundersen Lutheran Harmony Clinic.

Informational exhibitors include Fillmore County Recycling, National Trout Center, Fillmore County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Cloth Diapers Today, Simple Soaps for Simple Folks, Minnesota DNR Fisheries and many more.

Entertainment includes readings by Commonweal Theatre performers. Also, adults can win prizes on a "Quest for Local Loot" running at participating businesses in town from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Lanesboro Farmer's Market will begin its season in the park and Eagle Bluff will have starter plants for your garden available for purchase.

Also fifth grade students at Lanesboro Elementary, Fillmore Central and St. Johns will have posters themed around "What you do today can make a better tomorrow." The winning design will be made into a T-shirt available for purchase that day.
