Relay for Life funds utilized in several ways

This Friday evening, the residents of Fillmore County will gather in Harmony for the Relay for Life, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. With a goal of $128,000, the 29 teams and over 450 team members have already recorded over half that amount.

Local state park ready to offer new camping option
"For years, the southern parks have been fending off requests for cabins," said Forestville-Mystery Cave State Park head naturalist Mark White, "and up north, there are cabins at places like Itasca, and there are resorts everywhere where people can go, but down here in Bluff Country, there never were resorts."

Relay for Life tea serves as inspiring kickoff for event
On the afternoon of Friday, July 11, the Harmony Community Center gym will be filled with individuals with inspirational stories of survival and perseverance. Sitting alongside them will be their friends and family, people who not only supported them through their cancer fight, but who may have cared for them when the chemo treatments made them ill or provided comfort on their darkest days of the disease.

Here are some facts: Just south of Spring Grove, Jesse James Road dips south towards the Iowa border. If one follows the little gravel byway south over the bluff and down into the last valley in Minnesota, one may spot a cave in the rock face to the left, especially now, before the trees leaf out.

Age, cancer can't stop Wykoff woman from attending spring training
For the past 12 years Irene Jacobson, 94, of Wykoff has traveled to Fort Myers, Fla., to see her favorite team in spring training. This year was no different as she and her daughter, Linda, watched the Minnesota Twins from March 19 to 26.

The connection Krista Lenn Johnson has with Judy Garland can be traced to her childhood days growing up in Waseca. As a young adult, Krista moved to southeastern Minnesota where she is raising her daughter and working at the Spring Valley Senior Living Center.
