My holiday wish for you begins with a lesson from Santa. The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara.
At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus' words to "sell what you own and give the money to the poor," Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick and the suffering.
Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children and his concern for sailors and ships. He was known for leaving bags of gold, which he anonymously tossed through open windows, which are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings or putting out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas.
Stories tell of Nicholas saving his people from famine, sparing the lives of those innocently accused and much more. He did many kind and generous deeds in secret, expecting nothing in return.
Santa was more than just a chubby gift giver in a red suit. He was a true friend and a protector of those in trouble or in need. He didn't have any superhuman powers. What made him a hero was his kind heart and life-long devotion to making a difference and bestowing acts of kindness onto others. By his example of generosity to those in need, especially children, St. Nicholas' legacy continues to be a model for the compassionate life. And today, he is glorified as a miracle worker around the world.
Let the story of Santa be a reminder that your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely. Approach each day with a kind heart! Don't squander your words or your thoughts.
Always let love lead you because even the simplest actions you take matter beyond measure and they matter forever! Choose optimism and keep an open mind because sometimes all we need is a different perspective to guide us to the answers we are seeking.
Perspective comes from wisdom and wisdom is gained from the people we are gifted throughout our lives. Everyone we meet brings us something special, whether it's for a brief moment or for a lifetime. We must plant seeds in the minds and hearts of those we touch. From this, only love and kindness will bloom. Cherish the people in your life. For our time is short and unpredictable.
Christmas is not about the material possessions. The true meaning of the holidays is about acts of benevolence and spending precious time with the special people in your life. The greatest gift you can give to others is the gift of love and kindness.
May the joy of the season fill your heart and bring you joy and happiness. And may the spirit of Santa guide you and remind you what's really important this holiday season! Happy holidays!
