LETTER: Women, take your health into your own hands-get informed

"You absolutely need a hysterectomy. I cancelled another surgery, see you first thing tomorrow morning."

DO NOT become a victim of the surgeon's knife because of LACK OF INFORMATION. Hysterectomy, the removal of uterus, or female castration, the removal of ovaries, is a damaging surgery and has lifelong consequences.

No drugs or other treatment can replace ovarian or uterine hormones that are essential to a woman's health and well being throughout her life.

I have listened first hand to many horrifying stories of women 20 to 80 years of age. A young lady of ONLY 21 has captured my heart. She is now a victim of lifelong devastating surgery and cannot believe what is happening to her body.

I was fortunate to be with a young lady in her early 30s who had some bleeding and polyps. She did find an alternative doctor who did just what she wanted, a polypectomy - no D&C, no hysterectomy, no castration.

There is a doctor or clinic out there for you. Go to www.hersfoundation.org and read the blog and sign the petition that states, "SAY NO UNTIL YOU KNOW!"

Protect yourself, GET INFORMED! Don't be a silent victim, speak up. Women are agreeing to have this surgery based on the little information their gynecologist tells them.

Ask A LOT of questions and DEMAND answers. Remember you are someone's wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter and grandmother.

Kudos to the Grace Gordon Wellendorf and the HERS Foundation. The foundation is a life treasure to be shared.

Lynn Gordon Meiners

I must say Nora Coffey is the most couragest woman I know. After the results of her hysterectomy she is and has been trying to help any woman that will listen to hear life experiences from women who have been altered FOREVER. You never get it back I know I have struggled for 30 years since I said "YES" to castration. I don't believe there is any excuse about information it wasn't there for me but it is now. Go to www.hers website. Don't cry tears that you didn't know, nobody told me,the information is out there and very clear. It is your life you are giving away. Thank you for taking the time to read what I have written. I hurt for every castrated woman out there who is divorced, fractured family relationships and life due to this what I believe to be criminal surgery.

Lynn What a amazing supportive sister and person. I met Lynn and her sister this past year at a hers foundation confrence, they have been one of my biggest support links. They keep me informed and hopeful that some day there will be an end to Doctors doing this to any more women such as myself and your mother, your sister, aunt, or friend! Thank you Lynn and Gracie!

Well said! Every woman should have the basic information she needs to understand her anatomy and what happens to a woman's body when the female organs are removed. Watch the short video "Female Anatomy: the Functions of the Female Organs" at www.hersfoundation.org/anatomy

Thank you for printing Lynn Meiners editorial. You have just saved a few women from going through a life time of health problems. For the women all ages please go to the Hers web site and read and get informed. There are over 400 pages of women struggling each day and will the rest of their life because of this unnecessary surgery, hysterectomy and castration. Thank you very much.
