Lorraine M. Hansen, 89
Lorraine Marie Hansen, 89, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, following a short illness with cancer, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she had been a resident since August.
Lorraine Marie Lowrie was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Pleasant Grove Township, Olmsted County, to Harry and Alma (Petersen) Lowrie. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school and elementary school in Marion. She was married in 1940 to Milford Ready. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester and raised their daughter, Joan. They were later divorced. She was employed as a short-order cook at Nisner's Department Store and the 19th Hole BBQ, both in Rochester. She was married in 1958 to Clarence Hansen, and they moved to California, where they lived for five years before returning to Rochester. They were later divorced. She was employed as a seamstress at Textile Care in Rochester for many years, where she was affectionately known as "Grandma." She retired in 1987 and continued to make Rochester her home, the past seven years at Central Towers.
She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, sewing, baking, watching soap operas and following NASCAR. She was an avid walker throughout downtown Rochester, and loved time spent with her family, especially all of her grand and great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Wesley) Idso of Chatfield; six grandchildren, Greg (DelMarie) Idso of Kasson; Jeff (Sarah) Idso of Rochester; Doug Idso of Rochester; Julie (Lon) Golberg of Stewartville; Jenny (Tony) Christianson of Goodhue; and Steve (DaNett) Idso of Rochester; 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters, Edith at age 10, Jim Lowrie, Viola Thompson, Ed Lowrie and Levern Lowrie; a great-granddaughter, Ashley; and a great-great-granddaughter, Faith. She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Richard "Dick" Campion.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, with the Rev. Isaac Karow officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.
