Falcon boys drop two in basketball

In the last two games for the Fillmore Central boys, both non-conference, they have come up on the short end, losing to rival Lanesboro, 69-50, and to the soon-to-be member of the TRC, Winona Cotter Ramblers, 69-42.
Fillmore Central's Nick Powell comes down with a rebound vs. Lanesboro.
In the most recent loss to Cotter, marred by turnovers and poor free throw shooting, Dan Gatzke led the team with a double-double, 12 points and 14 rebounds. Nick Powell was also in double figures with 11, and connected for five of seven at the line. Logan Masters hit both of his field goal attempts and hit four of seven at the line for eight points. Take away the free throw shooting of Powell and Masters, and the rest of the team was 3/13.
The Falcons committed 30 turnovers in the game and hit only 12 of 27 shots from the charity line.

In the loss to the Burros, the Falcons were led by Dan Gatzke's 17 rebounds and 10 points. Nick Powell led the team with 13 points and pulled down nine boards. Jacob Tammel connected for three three-pointers and Logan Masters had two, each finishing the game with nine points.

The Falcons are now 2-7 for the season, 1-5 in the Three Rivers Conference. Tuesday night the guys hosted Rushford-Peterson and Thursday they will travel to Caledonia. They also have a Monday game, Jan. 14, at Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
The Fillmore Central B squad team has improved to 8-1 with recent wins over Southland (29-23), Lanesboro (47-26) and Winona Cotter (29-18). In the Southland win, the squad came back from a 19-13 halftime deficit. Leading scorers were Nick Mensink (14) and Kiel Larson (8). Scorers against Lanesboro were Jordan Miller (9), Larson (8), Bryce Whitehill (6), Mensink (6) and Zach Sorenson (6). Miller (9) and Mensink (6) were top scorers against the Ramblers. Aaron Mensink is the "bomber" coach.
