Fillmore Central board holds special
meeting to approve construction bids

The Fillmore Central School Board held a special meeting on Monday, July 7, to consider the bids provided by four companies regarding the construction projects in the works this summer at both school sites.
The board approved each of these bids for the ongoing project this summer. The first bid of $33,746 from Construction Collaborative was accepted for renovating the Title I classroom space.
The second bid, regarded Asbestos abatement from A & F Consulting, totaled $97,575 for the removal and encapsulation of floor tile containing asbestos.
The board also approved a $662,930 bid for parking lot improvements from Rochester Sand and Gravel.
Finally, it approved the $358,450 bid for the high school sprinkler system from Viking Automatic Sprinkler Co.
Other business discussed at the special board meeting included approving the school's participation in Minnesota Partnership for a collaborative curriculum. The collaborative works to develop digital curriculum materials and offer them to members for an open resource. Utilizing this participation would grant the staff access to already developed curriculum in addition to developing digital curriculum at a cost far less than the price textbook companies and other commercial vendors accept. The cost for the school would then be a mere $1 per student.
Finally, board members Emily Ellis, Shelly Topness, Sue Sikkink and Craig Britton's terms are ending at the end of 2014. The board approved a resolution establishing a general election on Nov. 4, 2014, to elect four school board members for four-year terms. In addition, it approved a resolution naming the dates for applicants to apply. The opening date for filing affidavits begins on Tuesday, July 29, closing at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The filing fee for the office is $2. The applications are available from the school district clerk at the Fillmore Central District Office.
