Mary Ellen Barth, 81, once of Preston

Mary Ellen Barth, 81, once of Preston, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the Olmsted Medical Center Hospital in Rochester. She had been a resident of the Stewartville Care Center since January of 2011.
She was born April 10, 1931, to Robert and Ruth Jefferis in Chatfield.
She married Lewis Barth on June 10, 1949, in Elgin, Minn., and they lived on the family farm south of Preston from 1949 to 1974 until they moved into town.
She was involved in the Chatfield Brass Band, Bucksnort Symphony, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Mississippi Sippers, Election Judge, 4-H (Preston Hilltoppers) Leader, "Streaker" and a Sunday school and Bible school teacher at Christ Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and needlework.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Judy) Barth of Arcadia, Wis., Gary Barth of Newark, Ill., John (Linda) Barth of Eden Prairie, Minn., Richard Barth of Spring Valley and Amy Barth of Burnsville, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Karly) Barth, Peter Barth, Sarah Barth, Kimberly Sonnabend, Diane (Matt) Bowron, Emily Sonnabend, Steven Sonnabend, Kyle Barth, Kassie Barth and Luke Barth; one great-grandchild, Kelly Barth; sisters, Roberta (Rodney) Copeman, Marlene (Glen) Hisey and Judy Stites, all of Chatfield; and two brothers, Mallory Jefferis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael Jefferis of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; a daughter, Susan Sonnabend; a brother, Thomas Jefferis; and parents.
The funeral was held last Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. Dave Jore offiiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Preston.
Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
