Murrell James Jacobson, 90, of Harmony, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Harmony Care Center in Harmony.

He was born June 20, 1923, in Harmony, the son of James and Lena (Grande) Jacobson. He attended Harmony schools and graduated from Harmony High School.

He first married Marjorie Elliot and to this union four children were born: Darrel, Brent, Diane and Neil. He later married Joyce Austin Milne and they were married 42 years.

Brown Swiss cattle were a big part of his life; he bought his first one at age 12 from Choat Farms in Winona. He continued buying Brown Swiss until they had all Brown Swiss on their farm, which has been in the Jacobson family name for 150 years.

He started Viewcrest Cattle Exports, which exported Brown Swiss Cattle all over the world, primarily to South America. He and his wife, Joyce, traveled all over the world with their export sales. He served as a judge of Brown Swiss at shows throughout North and South America. He showed cattle at the Olmsted County Fair, the Minnesota State Fair, the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., and the Waterloo Cattle Congress.

He was a member of the American Dairy Association, The Dairy Herd Improvement Association, president of the Brown Swiss Canton, president of the Minnesota Brown Swiss Association. He was named the Minnesota Dairy Person of the Year. He was honored at the State Fair for owning a Heritage Farm and he and his family were honored as the Fillmore County Family of the Year from the University of Minnesota.

In addition, he owned Jacobson Insurance Agency and was Secretary of the Harmony Farmers Mutual Insurance for 30 years. He also owned the Harmony Greenhouse, the JEM Theater, Country Lodge Motel, Center and Main Antiques and Travel Now Travel Agency, all of which were located in Harmony.

He was a 4-H leader, served on the Harmony Township Board as secretary for 30 years and collected John Deere tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jacobson of Harmony; two sons, Darrell Jacobson of St. Paul and Brent (Christy) Jacobson of Eau Claire, Wis.; a son-in-law, Jim Vagts of Harmony; a step-son, Jeff Milne of Harmony; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois (Juan) Tammel of Harmony.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Vagts and a son, Neil Jacobson.

Funeral services were held last Sunday at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Interment was at Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony assisted the family with arrangements.
