Schiltz headed to state golf tournament

Caledonia/Spring Grove's Devin Schiltz has qualified for the Minnesota Class AA State Golf Tourney.

Schiltz tied for fourth place as an individual in the two-day Section 1AA Tournament, which featured 41 golfers.
On day one (May 23), he parred 12 of 18 holes including seven in a row on the back nine finishing 8 over par. On day two (May 28), he was 12 over with 8 par scores. His two-day total was 162 (79+83).
Schiltz is the first C/SG male golfer to qualify for state in 5 years - since his older brother Isaac went to the big show in 2009.
Cody Breeser of C/SG also played in the two-day section event, totaling 187 (91+96).
Byron eighth grader Hunter Fjerstad shot 78 on day one and a blistering 72 on the second day winning meet medalist honors while totaling 150. The Bears also advanced as a team defeating Red Wing, Lake City, and Rochester Lourdes.
Schiltz will be joined by four other individual 1AA qualifiers. They include Jaden Thiemann and Zach Otto of Triton, who both totaled 155, Fritz Belisle of Red Wing (162), and Josh Fritzjunker of Lourdes (163). They will attend the AA State Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek, held June 10-11 in Jordan.
For the ladies, Ashley Gavin of C/SG shot 188 (95+93), which claimed 22nd place among the field of 42. She was one of four C/SG girls to have qualified for the second round. Teammates Claudia Melde (199), Rachel Peterson (209), and Rebeckah Schroeder (209) also competed as individuals.
Stephanie Herzog of Red Wing was meet medalist carding a two-day total of 151 (71+80). The Wingers also moved on in team competition defeating Lake City, Stewartville, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
Individual state qualifiers include Emily Schimbeno (159), Lexi Geolat (160) and Erin Pennington (166), all of Lake City, as well as Mackenzie (167) and Mickayla Olsen (169), both of whom hail from Stewartville.
In Class A, Three Rivers Conference rival Fillmore Central (30-2) cruised to the girls section team championship by a 24-stroke margin, One Falcon boy, Jordan Miller, won the individual section title and also advances to state as an individual.
