Merchants Bank and the Spring Grove Commercial Club are teaming up to offer customer service training for Spring Grove area business owners and their employees.

The "Minnesota Nice" Customer Service Seminar is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Spring Grove Communications Conference Room #103 at 172 W. Main St.

It will be presented by Kristine Valk, vice president/training director for Merchants Bank and Sue Hovell, senior vice president/director of sales and marketing for Merchants Bank.

Both have many years of experience in corporate training and offer expertise in customer service training for managers and frontline personnel.

The day will be broken into two sessions. There is no charge for either session, regardless of the number of employees that attend. The manager/owner session will take place from 9 a.m. to noon; the employee and frontline staff session is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. that afternoon.

Topics covered include: Basic Behaviors, Greetings/Invitations, Do You Look the Part, The Name Game (when and how to use a customer's name in your business), Listening Skills, Asking the Right Questions, Through the Eyes of Others (seeing yourself and your business through your customer's eyes) and Effectively Communicating with Different Age Groups.

Through the presentation and group work, attendees will complete a workbook they can bring back and put into practice.
