Donald (Don) M. Johnson, 85, of Richfield, Minn., died Oct. 27, 2013.

Born in Chippewa Falls, Wis., Oct. 21, 1928, to Morris and Helen Johnson, he grew up in Spring Valley but spent the majority of his life in Richfield.

He developed a love of sports at an early age that continued his entire life. In high school, he lettered many times in both football and basketball. For several decades he coached young men in intermural football and baseball. Many went on to play varsity sports for Richfield High School and several played collegiate ball.

He was a CPA and was employed by the federal government, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing and watching sports, with an occasional trip to Mystic Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn, of Richfield; sons, Richard (Linda) of Grand Prairie, Texas and Randy (Donnis) of Burnsville, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Lady, who during his final days barely left his side.

The memorial service was Thursday at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Richfield with interment at Ft. Snelling.
