Senior Marshall Oeltjen was showing the younger players on the Kingsland football team just how it's done, rushing for 96 yards in 22 plays. Oeltjen had an eight yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, in part of the comeback effort for the youthful, injury-laden Knights.

Kingsland scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, but it turned out to be too little, too late, as they fell to the Fillmore Central Falcons, 45-27 Friday at home. The Falcons had a 38-0 lead going into the fourth stanza.

"Numbers and injuries are making it very difficult for us to compete," said coach John Fenske. "On Friday night we started six underclassmen: three freshmen and three sophomores. We have five starting upperclassmen out with season ending injuries. The kids we have healthy are playing their tails off and improving each week."

Also having a fine game was sophomore quarterback Jacob Rindels. Rindels had his "number called" 16 times and picked up 82 yards rushing, including a 35 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Rindels also completed seven passes in 18 attempts for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one interception. The two touchdown passes were to JJ Fenske (24 yards) and Quinn Larson (14 yards). Those touchdown passes also came in the fourth quarter.

Making pass receptions were Marshall Oeltjen (1/9), Jordan Kohn (1/17), JJ Fenske (2/28, 1 TD), Quinn Larson (1/14, 1 TD), Eaen O'byme (1/44) and Marcus Plaehn (1/9).

Also in on the running plays were Fenske (1/1), Larson (1/-3), Chase Ganser (1/6) and Kohn (1/2).

Kingsland had 305 yards of total offense, to Fillmore Central's 384.

Defensively, the Knights had fumble recoveries from Marshall Oeltjen, Julius Wolf and Allen Junge. Sacks/tackle for losses were recorded by Wolf (2), Tyler Messner, Justin Kraling and Brock Fiegel.

Kingsland had three take-aways (all fumble recoveries) and three give-aways (2 fumbles, 1 INT).

Scoring by quarters....

Fillmore Central 6-14-18-7 = 45

Kingsland 0-0-0-27 = 27

Friday night the Knights travel to Chatfield for a Three Rivers South match-up.
