During the course of the past season, Fillmore Central lost six matches, but none "hurt" as much as the final one against Mabel-Canton, in the East 1A Subsection Tournament.

Leading in sets, 2-0 (33-31, 25-20), and in game three, 9-2, the Lady Falcons "went into a tail dive" and ended up losing game three, 18-25, game four, 14-25, and game five, 14-16. The events in the match went from "being so good, to being so bad." A loss that is really tough to explain, except that Mabel-Canton has a good team, but that was surely a match that Fillmore Central should have, and could have won!

With the loss Fillmore Central ended the season with a very respectable 26-6 record. With the win, Mabel-Canton gets themselves a "date" with Wabasha-Kellogg in the 1A East Subsection finals. The East Subsection winner will take on the Bethlehem Academy/Medford winner for a trip to the state tournament.

Taylor Case had 22 kills in the loss to Mabel-Canton and was 13/13 at the service line and was 12/12 in serve receiving (SR). She also had 16 digs on defense and 4 ace blocks at the net. Victoria Peterson had 12 kills in the five set match and was 19/21 (2 aces) at the service line. As a team, Fillmore Central had 200 attacks against the Cougars, with 52 kills, 37 hitting errors, for a hitting efficiency of .075. Credit the Mabel-Canton defense on a super match!

And speaking of defense, senior libero Chelsea Rislove, had 25 digs to lead the team, and was 26/29 in SR. Danielle Zinsmaster was 23/24 in SR and Sara Schultz converted on 18 of 20 in the SR department. Zinsmaster was also 20/21 at the service line, with two ace serves, and also picked up 13 digs.

Morgan Malley had another good match, setting up the Falcon hitters 43 times, digging out 12 Cougar attacks and serving 10/11. Kaitlynn Aug had three ace blocks to go along with two kills in the five sets.

Earlier last week, Fillmore Central hosted Spring Grove in subsection play, defeating the Lions, 3-0; 25-12, 25-17, 25-15.

Morgan Malley had 30 of the team's 31 set assists, and picked up a half-dozen digs.
