Falcons lose regular season finale in football

Once again the Fillmore Central offense couldn't get untracked, losing the final regular season game to Southland, 29-8 Wednesday night. The locals trailed at halftime, 22-0.
In the first half Fillmore Central had seven possessions, and ended up punting five times, turning the ball over on downs once and losing the last possession on an interception. The second half played out very similar to the first half, with two punts, one touchdown and three interceptions, one near the end of the game.
The Falcons did have 191 yards of offense, but gave up 435 yards to the Rebels. McKinnen Stone carried the ball 12 times for a net of 63 yards, averaging 5.3 yards/carry. Tyson Ristau had 24 yards on seven carries (3.4/carry), Dylan Bathke averaged 6.4 yards per carry, getting 32 yards on five carries. As a team, FC averaged 3.9 yards per carry, but couldn't sustain any drives, except the one they scored on in the fourth quarter.
The scoring drive for the Falcons culminated with a seven yard run by quarterback Bryce Whitehill. The drive totaled 62 yards on 10 plays and consumed 4:12. Logan Masters scored the two-point conversion. Highlights of the drive included a 19-yard run by Stone, a 16-yard pass to Masters and a 14-yard pass to Stone.
Defensively, the Falcons were led by Stone , who had six solo tackles and 12 assists. He also recovered a fumble, the only Southland turnover. Connor Hanson had four solo tackles, while Masters and Monty Holm each had three solos. Holm and Stone each had two solo tackles for losses. Involved with assisted tackles for losses were Stone, Tyson Ristau, Gatlin Woellert, Hanson, Andy Love, Holm and Nick Mensink.

Tuesday the Falcons hosted Goodhue, a team they lost to in week seven by a score of 20-6. Keys to the game for the Falcons...hang on to the ball and get the offense going. Defense has been a constant this year and will continue to be the cornerstone for the Falcons. A win would put the Falcons at Blooming Prairie against the top seeded Blossoms or at home against the bottom seeded Kingsland Knights on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Section 1A semifinals.
