Last year the Falcons finished the season with a 4-6 record, 3-5 in the Blue Division of the Southern Football Alliance (SFA). This season, in the last year of the SFA, Fillmore Central hopes to improve on that record, although it will have a tough start, traveling to Chatfield to take on the defending state champion Gophers.

This year’s squad will feature six seniors, 10 juniors and 16 sophomores.

“We return five starters from last years team,” said head coach Chris Mensink, who has been with the Falcon football program since 1997. Mensink will be starting his eighth year as the head coach for Fillmore Central, and has a career record of 25-42.

Captains for this year’s team are Nick Mensink and Jordan Miller.

Mensink sees Caledonia, Chatfield and Rushford-Peterson as conference favorites.

“We know it will be a tough conference,” added the Falcons coach, “and we will need to be prepared to play tough, aggressive, hard-nosed football every Friday night. We will improve as the season progresses and the kids gain experience.  We will be a competitive team.”

SFA-Blue Division opponents for Fillmore Central this year, in order of the schedule, will be: Chatfield, Caledonia (home), Wabasha-Kellogg, Goodhue (home), Southland, bye, Rushford-Peterson (home), Hayfield and Kingsland (home).

The Falcons will be competing in Section 1A when the playoffs roll around.  Section 1A teams include Bethlehem Academy, Blooming Prairie, Goodhue, Kingsland, Rushford-Peterson, Southland, Wabasha-Kellogg and Fillmore Central.

Next year Fillmore Central, and all schools, will be involved in “district” play.  More information on those developments will be shared as the season progresses.
