The Burros traveled to Schaeffer Academy on Monday, Dec. 9, for their first boys basketball game since before Thanksgiving.

After a slow start and several misses, LHS trailed 8-1. That's when Lanesboro defenders turned it up a notch and began to force a series of turnovers, creating transition buckets. The Burros overtook the Lions 11-10 before tearing off on a 21-2 run. SA never caught up, and LHS posted a 74-51 victory.

"We hadn't played a game since Nov. 26 so it took us a while to get back into our game mode," LHS coach John Smith noted. "We had too many turnovers resulting in empty possessions.

Kole Ruud led the Burros with 34 points (29 before halftime), including 5 baskets from downtown. Overall, LHS recorded 10 treys, including two from Luke Rogers and one each from Matthew Luck, Cole Schwichtenberg, and Zach Voeltz.

Rogers finished with 20 points. Luck and Voeltz had 5 apiece, while Garrett Boggs scored 4. Preliminary stats do not include rebound totals, but Liam Dorn controlled the backboards for LHS while scoring 3 points.

Overall, Lanesboro hit 17 of 27 from two-point range, 10 of 32 from beyond the arc. Even if they started out a little rusty from the field, the Burros quickly settled down at the line, canning 76.9 percent of their free throw attempts (10 of 13). The Lions averaged only 54.5 percent (6 of 11).

SA senior Joe Vaughan led the hosts with 14 points. Junior Zach Sanger added 12, while senior Josh Hanson poured in 9 more. Classmate Eric Zeldenrust had 7 points.
