Dorothy Viola Nordness died peacefully in her home in Sparks, Nev., on March 15, 2014, at the age of 88.

Her life was an inspiration to those of us who knew and loved her. She was a child of the Great Depression, she was a young adult and wife during World War II, she was a wonderful mother of three, she was creative in many areas of her life and lived with an artist's heart. She held the lives of our ancestors in the thousands of pages in her genealogy files, was the ideal wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Dorothy graduated from Decorah High School in May of 1943 in Decorah, Iowa, and married in July of 1943 in Las Vegas, Nev. She and her family moved to California from Chicago in 1948 and she worked for Englander Mattress Company. They lived in Gardena and raised her family there until their retirement in 1982. They moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where they spent 20 years in their dream home on top of a mountain before moving to Sparks.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Boris Dobrotin, three grandchildren, Tim Soman, Bridgette Yates and Lorie Morin along with three great-grandchildren, Ryan Morin, Nathan and Joshua Yates.

Her husband, Art, her two sons, Danny and Donny, and one grandson, Marc, predeceased her in death.

The funeral services and internment were held at Westminster Cemetery Memorial Park on March 25.
