Luverne Otto Schroeder, 79, of Spring Grove, died Wednesday April 30, 2014, at Tweeten Healthcare in Spring Grove.
Luverne was born in Wilmington, Minn., on Aug. 26, 1934, to Henry and Elsa (Buzitsky) Schroeder. He was one of five children.
Luverne graduated in 1952 from Spring Grove High School. He married Carol Storlie in 1955. They had four children.
Luverne had an engineering mind, but had a love for the farming business. He worked for Onstad Dairy for many years delivering milk to various communities. Finally in 1966 he started his life's work, opening Schroeder Surge Service in Spring Grove, installing and servicing dairy equipment until he retired in 2000.
Luverne was very proud of his German heritage. He enjoyed golfing, fishing with his grandkids, landscaping, woodworking and creating things in his shop. He loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports of any kind. He was an AA member, Boy Scout leader and member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, and their children, Connie (Gary) Strinmoen of Spring Grove, Curt (Kathy) Schroeder of Rochester, Cindy (Rick) Flatin of Houston and Christy (Al) Sanderson of Wenceville, Mo.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his brother, Verdell (Doris) Schroeder of Statesville, N.C., and his sister, Yvonne (Tom) Roth of Albuquerque, N.M.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Naomi Onsgard and Verna Corbin.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with the Rev. Stephanie Frey officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Church Cemetery.
