Neil Virgil Bresnahan, 71, of Waterville, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at his home in rural Waterville.

Neil was born March 24, 1941, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Fern (Moe) Bresnahan. He was baptized at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.

Neil attended St. Patrick Catholic School though eighth grade and graduated from Waukon High School in 1959.

On Aug. 8, 1964, he married Sandra Busness at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He farmed for a short time with his father and brother in rural Waukon and worked for Waukon Equity.

In 1966, they moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he worked at a couple of factories. In 1969, he went to Insurance Adjuster School and started to work for Hunt Claim Service as a claims adjuster. Neil was transferred to the Fort Dodge, Iowa, office in 1971.

In 1973, he went to work for Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company and moved to Oelwein, Iowa. Neil and Sandra moved to the Waterville area in 1977, where they bought her parents' farm; he was still farming there at the time of his death.

He was active over the years with Cub Scouts as a leader, NEI Insurance Adjuster Association where he served as a past president, represented Calhoun Creamery at the Midwest Dairy Association, and the Knights of Columbus where he served as a past Grand Knight and CEW.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Waterville; his children, Sean of Waterville, Sheila (Dan) Halweg of Calmar, Iowa, Shelly (John) Lydon of Waukon, and Amanda Williamson of Rapid City, S.D.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Suzanne) of Dorchester, Iowa; three sisters, Sheryl (Rudy) Tekippe of Pasadena, Calif., Marcia (Steve) Casey of Oneida, Wis., and Lori Bresnahan of Hokah; his mother-in-law, Frances Busness of Waukon; a brother-in-law, Darrell (LouAnn) Busness of La Crescent; a sister-in-law, Cheri (Bob) Turner of Waukon; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alan; two infant brothers, Donald and Raymond; and his father-in-law, Lester Busness.

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, with Fr. John Moser, Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Fr. Louis Trzil officiating.
