Points leader Luhman repeats; Mensink, Lerch triumph, too

The ninth race in the Upper Iowa Speedway season series shifted to Cresco Speedway on Sunday, July 20.

Small but fast, the Mod Lites once again delighted fans. Rushford's Curt Luhmann took his second checkered flag in a row, his third of the year in the UIS series. Second went to Winona's Bob Cisewski with John Griffin of Caledonia taking third. Two Mabel drivers, Eli Hershberger and Adam Rogich, finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Harmony was represented by Corey Whalen, who took sixth.
Luhmann leads the series with 721 points. Hershberger is second with 670. Griffin is third at 620.
The Hobby Stocks feature race went to Nathan Lerch of West Union, Iowa. Cresco drivers Steve Holthaus and Scott Spilde took second and third, respectively. Chad Olson of Harmony finished ninth.
Holthaus leads the series with 669 points. Joshua Ludeking of Decorah has 656 while Spilde checks in at 655.
The four-cylinder Hornets class was won by Jay Mensink of Harmony. Ryan Ayers of Decorah finished second, followed by Arthur Schott of Clermont, Iowa. Christopher Schansberg of Caledonia took fourth while Mabel's Breanna Lee finished fifth.
Ayers continues to lead in total points with 700. Schott is second (675) while Mensink holds third (630).
There were 18 drivers on hand in the popular B-Mods class. Jacob Bleess of Chatfield won the feature, working his way up from sixth position. Matt Jones of Waukon took second, followed by Chris Weigert of New Hampton.
Jones tops the leader board with 726 season points. Dan Hovden of Decorah is second with 685, followed by Weigert at 615.
Lynn Panos of Calmar took the checkered flag in the Stock Car feature. Kyle Falck of Decorah was second, followed by Tom Schmitt of Independence, Iowa. Shawn Peter of Mabel took fifth while Spring Grove's Pete Solum finished seventh. Caledonia driver Jake Lampert was 15th.
Mitch Hovden of Decorah is first in Stock Car points totals with 701, followed by Falck (678) and Dan Jones of Waterville, Iowa, (630).
The UIS series will be back at the Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco on Sunday, July 27. Hot laps begin at 6 p.m., with racing at 6:30.
