Arlan David "Dave" Olson, 65, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at his home in rural Spring Valley.

He was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Austin. He was the son of Ella (Magnuson) and Tillman Olson. He graduated from Preston-Fountain High School in 1965. He entered the Army and then served in the Army Reserves until honorably discharged.

He was married to Dale Johnson in 1968, and they later divorced. In 1980, he married Glenda (Rustad) Olson.

He and his brother, Donnie, were self-employed and owned Olson Trucking.

He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, driving a semi, cooking, watching Minnesota sports teams, fishing and going to auctions and the casino. He was known for his big heart, and always looking out for everyone else before himself. He had a kind spirit and warm smile.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda; three daughters, Christine (Dan) Shaw of Adams, Delicia Olson (Ryan Kite) of Preston and Angela Olson of Spring Valley; a son, Matthew (Lindsey) Olson of Chatfield; four grandchildren, Paul Apenhorst, Thomas Shaw, Erik Shaw and Emily Olson; a brother, Donnie Olson (Bonnie Blaser) of Fountain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sharon; and one daughter, Bethany.

A family visitation will be held at Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, with a memorial service at 5:30. A luncheon at the Spring Valley VFW will follow.
