LaVaine Bert Parsons, 92, formerly of St. Charles, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where he had resided since 2003.

He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Winona County, to Bert and Ella (Kurth) Parsons.

He grew up on the family farm, attended rural school and farmed with his family.

He was married in September 1945 in Rochester, to Joyce Royce. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Parsons family farm. They were later divorced.

He continued farming until 1972, when he moved to St. Charles. Then he was employed at Mid-America Dairymen Inc. in Zumbrota.

He was married to Harriet Putzier in July 1984, in Winona. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Winona, where he was employed at FiberLite Co. for a number of years. His wife died on May 29, 2010.

He was a past member of St. Charles Bible Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, John Deere tractors, visiting with friends and time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by five daughters and two sons, Ruth (Vern) Polzin of Wabasha, Bonnie (Charles) Loftus of Stewartville, Loretta (Brian) Loftus of Stewartville, Donna (Curt) Reiser of Rochester, Jeanette (Steve) Hanson of St. Charles, Jim (Kathy) Parsons of Ostrander and John (Jackie) Parsons of Apple Valley; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle Parsons of St. Charles and four stepchildren, Shirley Putzier, Bill Putzier, Carol Putzier and Sharon Kasper.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Joyce and Harriet.

The funeral service for him was held Wednesday, June 4, at St. Charles Bible Church, with the Rev. James Barnhart officiating. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
