Vermona G. Schwartz, 90, died Oct. 25, 2013, at Ostrander Care and Rehab, where she had been a resident.
She was born June 14, 1923, to Gerald and Cena Mead of Forestville, Minn., and grew up in the Forestville/Cherry Grove area, graduating from Wykoff High School in 1942.
She married Roy Schwartz Oct.10, 1945, and they raised six children, two of their own, one adopted, and three others, David, Carolyn and Evelyn, to whom they opened their home.
She worked hard her entire life. She worked at Mayo Clinic, farmed, waitressed at the Tamarack Café and retired from Telex Communications in Rochester.
She loved softball and played on the Cherry Grove Women's Team, which was undefeated for five years. Another passion was her love of music. She could play any instrument; she could not read music but her gift was that she could play and sing by ear. She shared her talent with the community through 4-H talent shows, special music concerts and by serving as a youth choir director for over 17 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Gretchen (Terry) Woodard of Black Rock, Ark., and Linda (Jim) Koelsch of Oronoco, Minn.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Schwartz.
The funeral was Monday, Oct. 28. Hindt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
