The annual celebration includes a mix of new events and traditional activities, such as the grand parade Saturday at 1 p.m., which comes after the corn and hot dog feed that is free for people wearing an Ag Days button.
The cutest pet contest kicked things off Tuesday while a performance of "Snow White" is set for tonight (Wednesday) and the 17th annual Cruise Night is the feature Thursday night.
Friday, the schedule gets fuller with an antique tractor drive, Spring Valley Idol contest, old-time baseball and fireworks among many other events.
A guide to the celebration is included in this week's Spring Valley Tribune as a special supplement to the newspaper. The guide features several events and lists all activities during the week. There are also special promotions from local businesses advertised in the guide.
Divers to perform
A late addition to the calendar that didn't make the guide is the music for the pie and ice cream social Sunday afternoon.
The Divers from Mankato will be performing for Ag Days at the Spring Valley Area Ministerial Association pie and ice cream social Sunday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m. in South Park.
For more than 15 years, the Divers have been entertaining audiences of all ages with their unique and wide repertoire of original compositions, mixing elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, and jazz with random acts of nonsense. Their fun and unique sound emerges from an eclectic mix of guitar, mandolin, harmonica, bass, drums, and vocal harmonies.
Divers' music has been heard on the public radio stations of Minnesota State University in Mankato (KMSU 89.7), Gustavus Adolphus College (KGAC), as well as on The Cities 97 (KTCZ 97.1) and on Minnesota Public Radio's "The Morning Show." The song "Espresso My Love" was used in a national advertising campaign for Ford Motor Company, and on a coffee sampler also released by Minnesota Public Radio.
Performances have been described as "upbeat tunes, good playing, and laugh-out-loud shtick" by Joe Tougas in the Mankato Free Press.
The Divers are Peter Bloedel, Loren Halvorson, Eric Halvorson and Andy Overn. More information about them is at www.thedivers.com
