Fire destroys barn west of Wykoff

Dan and Tammy Eickhoff of rural Wykoff lost a barn to fire Wednesday afternoon.
The barn on the Dan and Tammy Eickhoff farm is mostly gone as fire, aided by strong winds, destroyed the structure.
Wykoff and Spring Valley fire departments responded to the scene after 2 p.m. Spring Valley Ambulance and Alliant Energy were also at the farm to help firefighters in their efforts to control the blaze as the temperature was barely above zero and a strong north wind created wind chill readings well below zero.
The Eickhoffs lost a few animals, some corn, hay and other items stored in the barn, said Tammy Eickhoff. No one was hurt and the fire didn't spread to the home.
"We sure appreciate the fire departments," she said. "It's so cold out, I don't know how they do it."
The Tribune will have more details on the fire in a later report.
