Sunshine Foods continues
drive for local food shelf

Local residents have been so generous in giving to the Spring Valley Food Shelf that Sunshine Foods is once again matching donations people make at the store.
The Spring Valley grocery store has set up a table at the entrance for shoppers to grab a $5 or $10 bag that will be rung up at the register as a donation to the Spring Valley Food Shelf. There are no goods in the bags, but the money collected will be used to purchase food to be distributed to those in need.
The store provided this service prior to Thanksgiving and matched the contributions by their customers. The program was supposed to end then, but owner Vern Bennett decided to continue through Christmas and again match the donations just prior to that holiday.
As of last Friday, $1,200 had been raised in the most recent Christmas drive. Shoppers may increase that amount by picking up a bag next time they visit the store. This food shelf drive will end on Christmas Eve.
