Gals split to keep records even at 4-4, 7-7

This past week, the Kingsland girls basketball team got a win over Wabasha-Kellogg, 75-51, but lost to state ranked Dover-Eyota, 72-32.
"It was a rough first half against Wabasha-Kellogg," said coach Jill Thalmann. "We came out slow and didn't play to our full potential. Defensively, we weren't moving our feet and got into foul trouble early in the game. (Cheyenne) Losey and (Joclyn) Pierce sat for most of the first half.
However, things got a whole lot better in the second half for the Lady Knights. Losey finished the night with a fine all-around game, 23 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Also having a fine game was Jessi Kaster. Kaster finished the game with nine rebounds, seven steals, four assists and four points.
Tops in scoring for the evening went to senior Lizzie Tart. Tart hit nine of 14 field goals, and eight of 10 at the line for grand total of 26 points. She also had six rebounds and two steals to help seal the win. Haley Colton had another good game, scoring five points along with three rebounds, four steals and two assists. Melinda Woods was three for three from the field, including one for one from three-point range, and finished the night with seven points, three rebounds and three assists. Kailynn Hamersma hit three of four from the charity line, along with two rebounds and two assists.
All around, it was a great team win! The team hit 47.2 percent from the field (25/53) and 75.9 percent (22/29) at the line.

This week the gals have three games, at Southland (9-1, 10-2) on Monday, at Rushford-Peterson (4-6, 7-6) on Tuesday, and home with Fillmore Central (2-8, 2-10) on Friday.
