Tunes, tomatoes, treats and treasures - all will be bigger and better on Thursdays in Chatfield.

"We're planning a bigger, better 'Thursdays in the Park' and it's the Chatfield Grower's Market, the Chatfield Commercial Club and the Chatfield Brass Band (CBB) coming together for a variety of wonderful things to enjoy before, during and after the Chatfield Brass Band's Thursday night concerts," said Commercial Club President Paula Bessingpas. She is anticipating the start of CBB's summer concert series and the accompanying produce, food and craft stands that will offer a complete sample of Chatfield, right in its very own city park, just south of downtown.

Bessingpas explained that "Thursdays in the Park" is an initiative of the Chatfield Commercial Club, a gathering of representatives of local businesses who wish to promote Chatfield.

"The Commercial Club keeps looking for different and interesting events to help keep interest in Chatfield's downtown, and this is one of the ways people can support the downtown businesses through an evening out in the park," she said. "We - the Commercial Club - started this three years ago, and the first year, it was good, last year, not so good, but this year, we're giving it another try."

Bessingpas added that they are hoping to have more support from the public. Festivities will begin each Thursday afternoon at 3 when members of the public can come to the park and shop for one's favorite produce, crafts and gifts. There will be something available to eat when the food vendors get there at 5:30 p.m. Then, all can stay for the band concert, beginning at 7:30.

"There are several different retail and craft vendors - I have some ladies who make their own items, I'll be there with some of the items from my store, Bailiwick Gifts, and Pam Bluhm will bring her Tastefully Simple homemade dinner and dessert mixes," Bessingpas added. "There's just a great variety of things that people can take in...we hope that they like what they find there."

The first "Thursday in the Park" will be this Thursday, June 6. The concert will feature the Chatfield Brass Band.

In case of rain, the concerts and the "Thursdays" market are canceled. For more information, contact Paula Bessingpas at Bailiwick Gifts at (507) 867-3076.
