Gals Lose To Falcons

The Chatfield Gopher volleyball team put up a strong showing last Thursday night in Preston, but fell to the #1 ranked Falcons(25-2), 3-0. Scores, all favoring FC, were 25-20, 25-19, and 25-22.

In set one(game one), the Gophers were tied at 8-8, but faltered a bit down the stretch. Chatfield got a strong start from Camille Rasmussen(2 kills) and a strong finish from Brook Irish(3 blocks, 2 kills). Set two 'played out' similar to set one, strong start for Chatfield, strong finish for Fillmore Central. Chatfield did finish out set two with a 5-1 advantage, but trailed by 10 going into their last serve opportunity. In set three against the Falcons, Chatfield held a 20-17 lead, but gave up five straight points, and found themselves losing eight of the last 10 points, the set, and consequently, the match.
Gabrielle Salisbury(15/15), Kirsten Keefe(8/8), Megan LaPlante(2/2) and Alex Duxbury(9/9) were all perfect at the service line, but the Gophers could only come up with one ace serve(Gabrielle). Brook Irish had a good game at the net, coming up with six kills and 3 _ ace blocks. Senior setter(19 set assists) also had a great game at the net, nailing five kills and one block. Coming up with four kills each were Maddy Kammer, Sheridan Salisbury and Brooke Adler. Kammer also had 2 _ ace blocks. Dig leaders were Alex Duxbury(16), Kirsten Keefe(15) and Gabrielle Salisbury(9). Tops in serve receive were Duxbury(18/20), Keefe(18/20), Maddie Talamantes(11/13) and Megan LaPlante(5/5).
Last Tuesday night the Gophers got a 3-2 win over Rochester Mayo; 17-25, 29-27, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13. Serving against the Spartans was very good, with the Gophers connecting on 109 of 115 attempts. Serving leaders were Gabrielle Salisbury(17/19, 2 aces), Maddy Kammer(13/14), Kirsten Keefe(21/22, 3 aces), Sheridan Salisbury(21/22, 2 aces), Camille Rasmussen(11/12, 3 aces), Maddie Talamantes(7/7), Megan LaPlante(1/1) and Alex Duxbury(18/18, one ace).
Brook Irish led theteam with 13 kills, followed by Kirsten Keefe with 11. Camille Rasmussen and Brooke Adler each had eight kills. Rasmussen led the team with a .316 hitting efficiency. Setter Gabrielle Salisbury had another good game at the net, delivering 26 set assists and nailing four kills with a .308 hitting average. She also had one ace block.
Defensive leaders were Alex Duxbury(16/17 SR, 23 digs), Kirsten Keefe(32/37 SR, 20 digs), Maddie Talamantes(19/23 SR, 7 digs), Sheridan Salisbury(8/8 SR, 8 digs) and Megan LaPlante(8/10 SR, 5 digs).

This week the gals travel to Rushford-Peterson on Tuesday and host Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Thursday night, which is the last regular season home match. The gals finish their regular season on Monday, Oct. 21, at Dover-Eyota.
