It's raining. It's pouring... But instead of rain, this time the phrases are referring to a Standard Issue Iron Pour held last week in Sylvan Park by the Lanesboro Arts Center. The event culminated Saturday with the pouring of red-hot, glowing, molten iron into molds, attracting a crowd throughout the day estimated at up to 300 people. Friday, July 30, 2010

It was the T-shirts that first caught attention: brightly colored, they boldly proclaimed "The KMS Marching Saints." Probably everyone has heard of the Fighting Saints, but marching saints? Maybe it was a religious group on a crusade.
The key was the KMS: it stands for Kirkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Schools, also known as the "Kiss Mee Sweeties." Located about two and a half hours west of the Twin Cities on Highway 12, this fragment of the high school marching band had found its way to Lanesboro for a few days off their feet and on to bikes as a much-deserved respite.
