In a priority of parts of a football game, coach Chris Mensink puts the kicking game first, defense second and the offense third. "That's pretty much how it played out, too, in the BA game," said Mensink. "Ryan Mayer and Tyler Eickhoff did a great job and really kept the Bethlehem Academy players off balance." Mayer does the kickoffs and extra-points and Eickhoff is the punter.

| Falcons on top in TRC

Although there are still nine more conference matches to go, right now, the Fillmore Central Falcon volleyball team is in a five-way tie for first place at 1-0. Also tied with the local gals are Wabasha-Kellogg, Chatfield, Lewiston-Altura and St. Charles. The standings are through Thursday, Sept. 2. This past Tuesday night the Falcons hosted Plainview-Elgin-Millville and a great opportunity to remain unbeaten.

After a difficult loss last week, the Lanesboro volleyball team played with renewed energy and came away with its first win last Tuesday, August 31. Although Lyle/Pacelli struggled last year with just two wins, the program has a new coach and LHS could not afford to be casual about the match away from home.

| LHS rally falls short despite late scoring drives |
In their first football game of the season, the Lanesboro Burros put on quite a show for the fans. They hosted Mabel-Canton in a battle of wills last Friday night and despite some big plays, fell short 20-18. The Burros generated more yards than their opponent, but also ended with more turnovers and fewer third-down conversions.

| First year coach says...'Quickness and serving are strong points' |
While this is the first year for Denise Case as the head coach of the Fillmore Central volleyball team, it is not the first year in the volleyball program. Case got her start in volleyball coaching back in 1989 with Preston-Fountain and continued into 1999 with Fillmore Central as the B squad coach.
