The Mabel Little League team finished the regular season with a 3-4 record in the East Division after two tough losses last week. The Pee Wee squad (9-4-6) broke even with a win, a loss and a tie.

Nine was the winning number in the first two games before the league leaders put up a dozen runs in men's softball games at Canton on July 7. The teams coming in with the best records won each game with Canton Bank remaining undefeated.

The 35th annual Whalan fast pitch double elimination softball tournament held over the Fourth of July weekend was a great success. The tournament saw eight teams compete for first place over a three-day period.

The Mabel girls ran their summer recreation softball record to 9-0 with three wins at Spring Valley last week. In Little League baseball, there were two losses versus Spring Grove while the Pee Wee team went 1-1-2.

| M-C Athletes of the Year: Whalen and Smith |
The phrase "saving the best for last" has become quite a cliché. However, it could not be a more fitting phrase to describe the end of two athletes' careers at Mabel-Canton. The final and very prestigious award given an athlete is the Athlete of the Year honor. Cassidy Whalen and Joe Smith are the 2010 recipients of this award for their outstanding participation in their respective sports.

Each game was decided by a one-run margin with exciting last-inning rallies in all three men's softball contests at Canton on June 29. In each contest, the two squads came in with the same records. If you're reading, league founder Ralph Leistikow, it was a great night for some great softball!
