Maxine Russell's book "Jungle Angel: Bataan Remembered," is an account of McKay's grueling experiences as a lieutenant-colonel in the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the Philippines. McKay was remembered, recently, with a special memorial service on what would have been her 100th birthday. A special ceremony was held at the Richland Prairie Church in rural Harmony, where she is buried.

DreamAcres announces summer performances, festivities
"Telling a story in the theater is different from reading it on a page. It reminds you that you aren't alone," noted actress Kristin Underwood. "For a long time, cancer was something people whispered about, a taboo subject, especially breast cancer - although that's a lot less so now than it used to be. Experiencing the story as a play instead of just a written memoir gives people a way to have that conversation."
