Rock - and rocks: Show respect and enjoy
Music... and nature. A lot of you get that at least once each summer and maybe more if you're lucky. For some it's a cruise with the car top down and stereo cranked. For others, you can multiply the music many times as you're partying with a large group at a big, multi-day concert.

Cooler weather brings Maizy mishap; meet Stitch from SV
What a nice week we had in the middle of last week! It was filled with lovely, breezy 70-degree weather that was slightly reminiscent of fall.

If you were like us, you threw open the windows, shut down the air conditioning and basked in the cool breeze - especially in the evening.

Remember the library before it is too late
Last week when we were on our annual visit to my uncle in California, we joined the monthly breakfast gathering of the Porsche car owners' club to which he belongs. When we arrived, about five Porsches were already parked in the lot, and a couple more joined after that. All the owners were standing around, admiring each others' - and their own - Porsches, and of course "talking cars." We joined right in, adding my uncle's prized 1958 car to the mix.

A fair time give-away gives memory a hand
I eat a corndog each year at a county fair. I eat only one and I look forward to its ingestion. I have more than one blueberry malt/shake. They delight me.

I avoid things like deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Krispy Kreme hamburgers - a doughnut/hamburger cross.

Driver is example that trust is a crucial, but fragile thing
Unless you are totally alone on the road, driving depends on a great deal of trust. We have to trust that the other driver is going to follow the rules of the road. Driving to Rochester at the end of this week - the first time I was driving after surgery - many of us were put in a very dangerous situation. We could not trust one of the drivers in the midst of us.

Maizy adjusts to town life again; another feline friend debuts
Another week bites the dust and here I am, back with another pet profile. It's been a while since I've updated you on Maizy May. For those readers that were curious, she is thriving - all fat and happy.

Time to say goodbye to mother came sooner than expected
One never knows when the end is coming. Things happen when they have to happen, but not necessarily when we are ready for them to happen. In the midst of a busy weekend for me, my best Reader fan passed away.

Noah would have been proud of wren's efforts
Tom Benson of Hartland told me that after a severe thunderstorm, he found a dead wren. Tom said that it looked like the tiny bird had drowned close to a birdhouse nearly completely filled with sticks.

Rockin' - and rollin' - and rockin' on vacation
Shhh!!! Don't tell anyone, but I think I have found them. THEM! The people who understand me. The ones who keep their eyes pasted to the ground looking for unique and beautiful rocks, or fossils or minerals, maybe even risking a sidelong glance at a sheer, rocky bluff once in awhile.

Making a choice: Music and camping? Or caving and camping?
While we're dripping with sweat these days, there are small reminders that we are heading into the glorious days of fall. And along with those glorious days come a full slate of glorious activities, almost as if we need to take it all in as fully and completely as we can before the weather turns cold and white.

In fact, the celebrations and activities of fall are already starting. The weekend of Aug. 20 to 22 there are two fun activities I'd like to tell you about - there's still time to take part in either.
